So, you don't pose nude? Then read this
but you have an Implied Nude shot in your portfolio! You pose nude. You just don't show nude.
After being a part in numerous forums on another website, I was shocked to realize that models thought Implied Nude photographs were just something you did to pose sexy. Yeah, its sexy, but its also NUDE. I have written about this many times in many blogs, this time it gets one all by itself.
In a professional Portfolio, there is ONE thing you never have in there, a nude photo. Even if you pose nude, your portfolio must be able to be seen anywhere at anytime in front of anybody. You never know where your portfolio, either in hardcover form or electronic, is going to be looked at. So, you pose nude and you want something in your portfolio that lets people know you do pose nude, you put in an Implied nude. Yep, you are Implying that you do nudes.
A lot of photographers will tell you that its cool, yes it is and its also a great shot for the photographer's portfolio but, if you don't pose nude as a model, it has no place online or in your portfolio or even taken to begin with.
Ever get upset because a photographer wants to photograph you naked and you can't figure out why when you have written down " Don't even ask about nudes" ? Its because, photographers, like casting directors, agents, producers and the like, really don't read what a model has to say, they look at their work, they see an Implied Nude of you and see that you are doing nudes.
I have shot models who have clearly stated, no nudes. I have received responses to Casting Calls for nude shoots and when I look up the model, it says, no nudes! A lot of models put this in their online portfolios so they don't requests from creeps, or so their mom doesn't see it, whatever.... the reason, it all adds up to, it doesn't matter what she put down, just look at her portfolio.
How did this all start? The internet..... Women thought that the photos were very cool and sexy. In years past, when all a model had was a printed portfolio, you would in No way ever think about putting a nude in there. The classy and proper way, was to put in an implied shot or two. Never stated out loud, everyone just knew.
Nude means, without your clothes on. Whether you show anything or not, you are still nude in an implied photograph.
Whether you agree with this blog or not, really doesn't matter, if you want the creeps and the photographers to quit bothering you about doing a nude shoot, quit Implying it.
If you really do pose nude or are willing to, then shoot implied nudes.
